Here we share with you the thoughts and music of one Talent Pool’s latest recording artists, Raheem Khan.
Hi Raheem, first thing’s first, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I went to Hayward school and had the time of my life there and came out with 5 Gcse’s including English and science, but not maths – I hate maths! I liked drama in school and in muisc I just used to sing but wasn’t that confident singing in front of everyone, so I used to send everyone out of the class and put the microphone on and sing. I then went to bolton sixth form college and studied Psychology, commincations and culture and sociolgy before taking a gap year from uni. I have been singing since I was about 5 years old. I grew up listening to RnB/soul/hip-hop amd have always dreamt of being a singer and an actor, but prefer doing singing first. I like to write songs as well, mainly about love/romance/life. That’s the kind of music I like to sing.
Where would you like to go next with your music?
Well I want to be a professional singer who sings real RnB. I want to be known world wide not just the UK. I would love to go on Tour like other singers.
Which bands/artists inspire you?
I grew up listening to artists like Mariah Carey, The fugees, Lauryn Hill, Ice cube, Adina Howard, Nate Dogg, Luther vandross. However, the one that actually inspires me is Mariah Carey because I just love that women. I have all her CD’s and think she’s very underrated.
What do you think of the local music scene?
I don’t really listen to the latest music out there because I just cant listen to it; it’s not my type. I love old school music and for me, someone should bring it back! The recent music is too edited and I don’t call it music. It seems to me that when I was a kid music was so much better and positive.
How did you find the experience of performing in a professional recording studio?
I enjoy recording music, I love it. It was fun and the people there at Talent pool are great too.
